Is there another SMTP port other than Port 25 I can use?

If your ISP does not allow you to use mail.yourdomain.com as the outgoing SMTP server, you can configure your mail client to use port 587 instead of port 25.

Note: You will need set the server authentication option.

Outlook 2003:
  1. Start your MS Outlook software.
  2. Click 'Tools' and select 'Email Accounts.
  3. Select 'View existing email accounts' and click 'Next'.
  4. Double click on the email account and click 'More Settings'.
  5. Select the Advanced tab to change the SMTP port to 587.
  6. Go to the 'Outgoing Server' tab and check the 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication' box. Check the 'Use same setting as my incoming mail server' option.
  7. Click 'OK'.
Outlook Express:
  1. Start your Outlook Express software.
  2. Click 'Tools' and select 'Accounts'.
  3. On the Internet Accounts page, click on the Mail tab, select your email address, then click 'Properties'.
  4. On the Properties window, click on the Advanced tab to find the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) port options. Change the Outgoing mail (SMTP) port to 587.
  5. Click on the Server tab and check the 'My server requires authentication' box.
  6. Click 'OK'.

Thunderbird:

  1. Start your Thunderbird software. Click Tools and select Account Settings...
  2. On the Account Settings window select Outgoing Server (SMTP). Highlight your mail account and click Edit...
  3. On the edit screen change port 25 to be port 587.
  4. Under "Security And Authentication" select "User Name And Password".
    •  
      • User Name: username@yourdomainname.com
      • Password: Your Password For "username@yourdomainname.com"
      • Use Secure Connection: No
  5. Under the "Server Settings" attribute for the mail account you wish to use in Thunderbird. Ensure that "Use Secure Connection" is set to "Never" and "Use 6.
  6. Under the name of the email account (next to the plus or minus sign that will collapse or expand the mail account settings for that email account). Click on the dropdown menu for Outgoing Server (SMTP) and select the outgoing mail server that you just configured.

Mac OSX:
  1. Open Mail from the Dock. Click on Mail and select Preferences...
  2. On the Account window select your email address and click Edit
  3. Click on Server Settings.
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): mail.yourdomain.com
  • Outgoing port number: 587
  • Authentication: Password
  • User Name: username@yourdomain.com
  • Password:  Your Password For username@yourdomain.com

Netscape:
  1. Start your Netscape Mail software, click on Edit and select 'Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings'.
  2. Click on 'Outgoing Server (SMTP) and change port 25 to port 587.
  3. Section ensure 'Outgoing Mail Server user name' is filled out.
  4. check the 'Use name and password' box, enter your email username (userID@yourdomain.com).
  5. Click 'OK'.

Eudora:
  1. Start your Eudora software, click on Tools and select Options.
  2. Click on 'Getting Started'. Under'SMTP Server(Outgoing)' check 'Allow Authentication' and click 'OK'.
  3. Open the 'Options' window again and click on Ports in the left-and category list. Change the SMTP Port (25) to 578 and click 'OK'.

Entourage:
  1. Start your Entourage software.
  2. Click 'Tools' and select 'Accounts'.
  3. Select your email account in the list and click Edit.
  4. Click 'Click here for advanced sending options'.
  5. Check the 'Override default SMTP port' box and enter 587.
  6. Check the 'SMTP server requires authentication' box and select the 'Use same settings as incoming mail server' option.
